box rules:
You and your parents must sign a liability waiver before you can WOD. If you have not done so, please ask.
Get educated - understand CrossFit philosophy and movements. www.crossfit.com.
Attend class 5 - 10 minutes early to help with set-up.
Be coachable and don't coach other athletes.
Check your ego at the door - don't do too much too soon. It doesn't matter how good of an athlete you are or what your past athletic experiences are...if you haven't tried CrossFit before or it's been a while since you've done a WOD (workout of the day), you are a beginner and will do scaled WOD's until coaches feels comfortable with your ability level.
Ask the coaches for help before, during and after WOD's - If you're struggling with movements, come to class a little early...we are almost always at school early and can help, or ask to set up some individual or small group time...we are happy to help!
Don't clean up your gear until everyone is done the WOD...if you can stand and breathe after your WOD, cheer on others!
Respect the equipment, but don't baby it - don't drop kettlebells, empty barbells or barbells with metal plates.
Consider buying your own skipping rope - the sooner you learn double-unders the better! Check out Rx Smart Gear or Rogue Fitness for rope options.
Wear appropriate footwear. Running shoes are not great for most WOD's (they are too soft in the heel and allow for ankle roll). CrossFit specific shoes are best (Reebok Nano's, Nike Metcon's, etc.), cross trainers are good too. You do not need "CrossFit" shoes, but if you're looking, check out the CrossFit specific shoes...they're awesome.
Wear appropriate clothing. Our school dress code applies to WOD's too!
Always keep a pair of long athletic socks in your workout bag (rope climbs).
If you have long hair, please use a hair tie or head band.
Hydrate well on the day of a WOD and eat 60 - 90 minutes before. Follow your big meal with a small carb based snack 30 minutes before the WOD.
Don't cheat. If you have to scale a workout, do it. Just tell the coach otherwise it looks bad...
Put all equipment away when you're done with it and make sure it goes back neater than you found it.
